About us – Referents

The Institute of Essential Psychotherapy is based in Hennef.
It is headed by Wolfgang Erhardt, a psychological psychotherapist based in Bonn.
Many years of exchange with different traditions in the Buddhadharma and different psychotherapeutic methods have made an integration possible – into personal psychotherapeutic work and into one methodology – the essential psychotherapy.

Psychologist Wolfgang Erhardt, born in 1958 in Bonn-Zentrum as a psychological psychotherapist – Accreditation for behavioral psychotherapy – Further training in psychosynthesis, knowledge and experience in all common psychotherapy procedures. Since 1997 he has formed a practice community in Bonn with 5 colleagues. Experiences with Buddhist meditation and study since 1981 predominantly in Tibetan Buddhism of the Karma Kagyu tradition, but also in ZEN and Kum Nye. Organizer of symposia and working group meetings on “Buddhadharma and psychotherapy”. Owner and director of the Institute of Essential Psychotherapy. Author of the book “Buddhist Psychology.”

Born in 1971 in Aachen and raised in Herzogenrath. Studied sports science in the field of rehabilitation in Cologne. Buddhist Studies in Philosophy and Tibetan in India and Nepal and Long Stay in the Monastery in Auvergne, France where he completed two classic three year retreats. Experience in meditation 25 years and teaching in Germany and Brazil. Then training in somatic expiriencing after Peter Levine and Integral Somatic Psychology.

After studying psychology in Berlin, I worked for eight years in psychiatry. Now in private practice for 13 years with three colleagues in Planegg near Munich and at the Tegernsee.

Trained in couples, group and trauma therapy (VT, P.I.T.T. according to Luise Reddemann and EMDR therapist); Pesso therapist (training with Al Pesso); EPT therapist.

From 2016-2019 studies of Tibetology and Buddhism studies (BA degree at LMU Munich).

For over 15 years experience and practice in Tibetan Buddhism, first with Sylvia Wetzel, then in the Drikung Kagyu lineage.
